My Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 and 2 combo DVD arrived today and oh man, that ending still pisses me off. Or rather, the fact that the show was cancelled after that ending pisses me off.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a show where I was pretty blasé about it ending till 5 minutes into the very last episode and then those five minutes completely and utterly changed my mind. Seriously, I thought the 2nd Season dragged on more and more, leaving me rather uninvolved with the idea of it being cancelled.

But.that.last.sequence. THAT was like a whole pilot for a freaking show I'd LOVE to see.

And as Thomas Dekker says in the audio commentary it IS both the most hopeful and hopeless ending they could have done because John gets a lot of what he wants: his father, Derek, Cameron and being freed from the burden of being TEH John Connor and absolutely nothing of it in any way that he wanted it. It's like one of those genie-wishes gone horribly wrong.

So, of course they cancelled it and renewed the more in-house Dollhouse which they have cancelled now, too. I understand it' a business and shows have to earn their keep with ratings (and they gave TSCC a couple of chances, no denying that) but in the last few years it has become ridiculous with Fox. The cancellation of Dark Angel begat Firefly whose early cancellation begat True Calling whose early cancellation and so on and so forth. *headdesk*

If they had at least done a TV movie for closure, I'd even take a continuation in book form or anything really. Sigh.

I was never in the fandom - don't even know if there was a fandom to speak of - but is there fic that deals with young-John-is-a-nobody-in-the-apocalyptic-future-with-his-loved-ones-who-don't-even-know-him?

How DID the show end? I gave up on it after S1, it was too slow for me.

Heh, the second Season was even slower but after Derek got killed and Cameron damaged beyond repair, young John and one of those liquid metal Terminators who may or may not have been on the "good" side travelled forward to the future.

And there of course was Derek, his father Kyle and Alison, the human girl ther Terminators modelled Cameron after. So, John had a split-second of being happily overwhelmed before he realized not only did they not know him but noone knew him, that is the name "John Connor" didn't mean anything to anybody. So, the viewer was left wondering if he just had managed to do what Skynet had tried forever in vain - erase him from history - or if that is how the timeline started and he would become the future leader from that point forward. It just held so much potential in my eyes.

Also, of course there'd been hints that maybe they have a different savior in this new future: Savannah and her robot John Henry at her side.

True and they barely had time to even explore that angle. I mean, did Weaver originally come from the future and why did she try to fight Skynet in the first place when in the submarine episode the liquid Terminator declined John's offer to be allies.

I know they have basically established that everybody can come from a different timeline that seizes to exist once they change anything in the past but there are still a lot of questions.

But, I'd still find it neat if Teenage!John became the John Connor and basically created his own mythos that he always tried to escape. Ultimate tragic irony.

Damn, I miss that show. :/

Not reading the entire post or the comments because I fully intend to finish watching the season someday but...

Oops, I didn't do a cut because I thought it was all old hat anyway. Where did you stop watching, Season 1 or 2? Like I said, the Season itself wasn't all that great in my opinion so you need some patience.

Hm, it wasn't quite the same for me. Basically, the only thing I was sorry for was to lose Alec. :)

And of course they continued it in those fantastic tie-ins. *cough* *g* *cough* At least, there was lots of fanfic to be had after DA ended.
