Footwear freaks me out

Supernatural

I had high hopes because this was an Edlund-penned episode and he did not disappoint. Yay.

I LOVED the first phone-call with Cas. The "voice" telling an angel he is almost out of minutes. Somehow, that cracks me up. And how he remained at his little corner all dejected because of course he couldn't just zap elsewhere and wait there. Hahaha, oh Cas, I echo Dean: don't ever change.

Not that I didn't like a glimpse at Stoner!Cas. Poor thing had totally given up. But he could still feel when Dean was Dean or rather what kind of Dean.

I liked Future!Dean as well and maybe because I have seen some true ruthless leaders on other shows wasn't particularly shocked by him. So he was battle-hardened and had lost his joy in life? How incredibly unexpected given the circumstances. Not. So, he tortures demons for information? And is shooting anyone with the symptoms without hesitation? Really not that shocking. I kinda would have dug a scar as well. Now, of course I could see why current!Dean who had not lived through this would be put off by it all. He is not that person and that person has lost exactly the qualities that make it impossible for Dean to get on board with this. He needs to change this whole future if he wants to not change himself.

Also, I didn't mind what Dean was saying in the beginning. You know, it doesn't make a lot of sense to put the two pre-assigned vessels together so as to better duke it out. However, as we've seen, Dean is also an anchor to those around him. When he isn't there and when he isn't himself, they give up.

Was nice to see Lexa Doig. And heh, looks like Future!Dean hasn't sworn of all earthly pleasures, huh? :D

Never have been a fan of "Croatoan" but the "do you love me" playing while the 28 Day later zombies were gunned down in the Watchmen set? Cool. I know it's tough for the show to pull off the apocalypse on their budget but it worked nicely here.

Poor Impala. *bows head in silent mourning*

Now the scene with Lucifer, sigh. You know, I have always been a big fan of Lucifer as a mythological figure. You know, the most beautiful, most beloved angel falling. But, um, in this show? I kinda want to take the world's smallest violin right from his whiny fingers and smack it over his head. Repeatedly. Boo-hoo. He is like a child who has been sent to his room to think about what he has done wrong. Approximately thousands of years ago. And what has he got to show for it? "Wah, Dadddy was so mean to me, wah, I'm such a victim, wah". Thousands of years and he is still basically that same child throwing the tantrum. Grow the fuck up, already.

You didn't love God too much, you loved your own ego too much. And you still do. And you haven't figured out that God was TESTING you all back then and why you failed.

Also, those GHASTLY shoes will haunt my existence. I could have taken the white pimp suit - barely - but the shoes sent me screaming into near-insanity. I bet they are what drove people to madness, not some virus. Now, I know what they are going for, crazy tele-evangelist and subversion of purity aka "evil in white" but the more Lucifer smarmed his faux sincerity in his utterly horrific outfit, the more I curled into myself. I guess, SPN's version of Lucifer and me are not for each other.

Which isn't to say the scene was badly played by Jared. Apart from a flamboyant vibe that confused me because it doesn't seem his M.O. so far, it was well-played. I just don't like the written incarnation. I have ZERO "sympathy for the devil."

I cheered when Dean told him he was full of crap. YES. *pumps fist*

Also cheered when he told Zach off again even when he was still reeling so much from the future vision. And I'm not at all convinced that wasn't just a trick. Oh yes, super-honest Lucifer also said it was all real. Yeah, put a sock in it.

Cas to the rescue. Awww.

Their reunion at the end. Hm, I hope it will still be played organically. Things can't magically be better just because they are both decided now that given the givens they should try it out together. It was a sweet scene but I need LOTS more of them growing back together for real. I viewed this here as just a start.

I really would like to know where Michael is already. Lucifer can't keep his whiny mouth shut but his angelic pendant apparently can't open it.

Would be remiss not to mention I thought Jensen did a superb job making his two selves distinctive from each other. And because iti s my lj, I can set some rules here: I do not want to fucking hear it about his voice. I don't mind it and I think he has had health problems there last year which means if he raises his voice, it will be like that now. So yes, moving on. His anguish as future Dean begging himself and in the Garden of Good and Evil scene - awwww. Again, Jared also played his part well, I just didn't like the part itself. So, I was happier to see Sam back for real. And Misha continues to crack me up.

Also, kudos to Kurt Fuller. Love to hate him and he has great chem with Jensen.

In essence: great episode but those shoes. Those SHOES. *screams and flees*

LOL. Nice review. I totally missed the Shoes Of Doom. And the voice thing. (What's with his voice?? To me it sounded just as sexy as always...hurrrr.)

BUT YOU TOTALLY MISSED THE SUREST SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE:
The newspaper headline reading "PRESIDENT PALIN..."

I totally missed the Shoes Of Doom.

When he snapped Future!Dean's neck with his foot, all I could think was: those shoes are evil. They will kill us ALL. *g*

And the voice thing. (What's with his voice?? To me it sounded just as sexy as always...hurrrr.)

There is a lot of grumbling over the "batman" voice and it gets on my nerves at this point. I know his voice is a lot more growly when he shouts or raises it now, but I also heard he had severe problems with laryngitis last year and I think his voice just naturally got deeper. Also, it doesn't really bother me.

Hehe, I know. Things must have been very bad.

I can see how a voice change could be a problem if it changed into a high-pitched Micky Mouse voice. But fans grumbling about Dean's voice getting more "growly"? Seriously??
Of all the ridiculous things to be upset about... *points to icon*

(I'm gonna shut up about this topic now, sorry. ^^)

I kinda would have dug a scar as well.

Me too! And I wanted some gray hair on his temples...

Apart from a flamboyant vibe that confused me

LOL My flatmate also said that he looked a bit gay. I was too shocked by the shoes to notice. Though I do love this Lucifer, he's funny and he allowed Jared to make the puppy eyes. Always a bonus point in my book.

But other than the Lucifer part, I agree 100% with you! Jensen was perfect, I love Kurt Fuller to pieces, Castiel and the "voice" made me giggle so much that I even had to stop the video to have it pass.

Things can't magically be better just because they are both decided now that given the givens they should try it out together.

I think they're going to keep the tension between the brothers for a while. It's clear that things aren't all good between them. But they will be. One day. Maybe the last episode of the season... :P

That would have worked, too.

I'm telling you, those shoes are the mastermind behind the apocalypse. *shudders*

Yes, that made me totally crack up.

I expect you might be right. *g*

Oh wow I loved this episode too. The funniest scene was the toilet paper bit by chuck. I think that future Dean was just the right bit of insane revenge driven socialpath (Bella got it so right). I mean it was so a John Winchester take on things. Kill them before they kill you and have no mercy. I mean shotting a man after sharing a beer with him reminded me of the Bill harvelle / John incident. But the really difference was shown by the Impala - It may not have run for 5 years but Dean would have cared for it. My best most favourite bit was Castiel's rescue "We had a appointment", wow. astiel was obviously keeping an eye on things and the idea of Zach using religeous fringe societies was excellant.
I posted clips of the episode on my blog on myspace so help yourselves to watching clips.

Not that she had room calling anyone else a sociopath of course. :-p

It warmed my heart a little bit that at least it was inside the compound, under "protection", if abandoned.

Thank you. :)

I wasn't shocked by FutureDean i fell in love with him! I know with those circumstances he couldn't be the same as PresentDean but those changes were so natural and wasn't forced by just the plot i was cheering at them.
As for Jensen's voice i really didn't see (hear?) any problem with it.

I mean, I was sad for them. Obviously, he didn't want this whole world but no way the camp would have survived if he was a bleeding heart.

Me neither.
