Now, that`s better

Okay, so the second part of Merlin`s Premiere was much better than the first, I thought. At least what I could see because it was so damn dark, at times my screen was pitch-black. WTH, director/editor/lighting guys/DP, what the hell?

First off, Arthur`s bane is himself? Um. In theory and on a better-written show that could be an intriguing concept - for instance I think Merlin`s bane is continuously himself and not, say, Morgana - but I would have wished for some further explanation. Is it about the choices he will make? Because goodness gracious, what is freaking different about that than the previous few years of the show? Every character makes and has always made choices that lead to good or ill.

I liked Mordred. And I liked that he seems not to be another spy for now. Crazy!Morgana really has noone to blame but herself for turning him against her. There is a decent human being left in him whereas in her? None at all. Man, her fall to the darkside was handled so abysmally bad. Even Lex Luthor got better writing on Smallville and THAT is damning with faint praise.

Liked competent Arthur in this episode. Getting the weapon, succesfully escaping, doing something about the mission he had set out for, namely helping his man, he managed to make a positive impression on Mordred even.

And while there weren`t as many slashy moments with Merlin and him, their interaction was more mature and equal. Though, for God`s sake, open your mouth and tell the truth, Merlin.

The ending was hella rushed. And I didn`t understand this interplay between Mordred and Merlin at the end about Arthur not knowing Mordred has magic. I mean, he knows who the boy is, he knows he is a druid. Are not all druids magical then? Even if so, Arthur would have to assume there is still a 50/50 chance Mordred HAS magic. We never saw him asking the boy. But then, the ending was hella rushed.

Now possibly Arthur not warming to magic drives Mordred away in the end? Well, you know what, how about someone tries to tell him the truth and THEN see what kind of decision Arthur makes. At least they would know for sure then. It seems unfair to judge him for basically assumptions.

As for magic still being outlawed, are you kidding me? Camelot is under magical attack every episode. We`ve seen more evil done with it comparatively than good. Because the good guys choose to remain mute. Yeah, dudes, the other side speaks up loud and clear. So you not getting your magical hippy-dippy world? Increasingly a torture of your own making.
