Still not done apparently. Watched the Merlin Premiere via livestream. And WTF was that?

Great going, ruining what could possible have been an enjoyable tug-of-war and questioning of Mordred`s loyalties by this stupid, stupid vision. Everything about that was stupid to the extreme.

Also, Arthur/Merlin are so painfully stagnant, they might as well be frozen in fucking amber.

And can Arthur win a godamn fight for once, especially now that he has Excalibur?

Last but not least, the little glowy alien. Sorry but that was simply too much. *headdesk*

I thought it was pretty bad to be honest. Compared to last year`s Opener especially.

It's so (not) funny how Arthur and Merlin have the same discussion again and again and again.

Arthur: Merlin, are you afraid?
Merlin: For you, you idiot.
Arthur: It's okay to be afraid. You're allowed to go home
Merlin: No, I'll stay by your side and protect you!
Arthur: You're weird and besides you always saving me and staying at my side in the 5 10 years we've known each other I'm still not convinced you're actually capable of doing something.
Merlin thinking: I HAVE MAGIC! I WISH I COULD TELL YOU BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE I'VE LIED TO YOU FOR THE PAST 5 10 YEARS AND MISSED SO MANY GOOD OPPORTUNITIES! OOPS!

Yeah, it seems in all of Merlin`s endavours to protect Arthur, when it counts he will still always do nothing and keep his secret.

To keep this bloody secret, the writers are now sacrificing both characters. Arthur is wilfully blind and obtuse to being betrayed every single Season, to then have a crisis of faith in the Finale, to then be manipulated into a false sense of self-worth by Merlin. Oy.

And Merlin? Let me guess, he will look at Mordred sideways all Season, fret and wring his hands over Mordred betraying and killing Arthur, half-heartedly threatening Mordred and half-heartedly make some veiled attempts to get Arthur to send him away.

He will however at no point whatsoever do the most obvious thing to deal with the problem at hand by telling the truth.

Aaaaaaaaargh.

I bet even the weird little Stargate alien will want to bash their heads together soon.

They've always sacrificed their characters for the sake of "drama! more drama!" IMO. Always, every character they could think of. Merlin who was the comedic relief for over two series, Gwen who's just there because she's Gwen and they had to have her, Morgana who jumped from good to confused to manic to evil to downright crazy, and Arthur who hasn't had any real opinion on his own since the beginning. Oh yes, they've all 'grown up', but only so much on the outside.

But yes, this. They'll do exactly what you wrote. Merlin trying to whisper something in Arthur's ear while Mordred will whisper something other into his ear. And Gwen who'll probably run the whole thing through Arthur. And Arthur who'll just do whatever is good for the drama.

I think this is one of those infuriating shows where the characters were at their most mature in Season 1 and regressed over the course of the show.

Because back then, I felt all of them as well as their relationships were coming along nicely. So much lost potential. Sigh.

But hey, everybody still looks young enough - it was so funny when Mordred told Arthur how he had saved his life many years ago and Arthur looks pretty much exactly the same as back then, only Mordred has grown up *g* - maybe they could drop all the writers and producers, get some new ones and do a reset to right after the Season 1 Finale and start fresh.

Do the reveal early on in Season 2 and then have Arthur help to hide Merlin`s secret from Uther. Have Morgana be conflicted between her loyalties to Morgause and Arthur/Gwen. Arthur can still be king by Season 4, only Merlin would actually be his court sorcerer by then. I`m not sure about the Arthur/Gwen romance and how to salvage it.

Yeah, I think season 1 was actually quite brilliant. The characters were plausible and comprehensible. There was an overall storyarch that made sense.

I know right? The Mordred scene all but killed me. He has grown way too much, while everyone in Camelot still looks the same. Even acts the same. Except Gaius and his weird wig.

Man, I'd give everything for a re-do with different writers/producers. I don't know what happened with them after season 1. Seriously.

The Arthur/Gwen romance would've made sense (to me) if Gwen would've continued to give Arthur a bit of a challenge like she did in season 1 in Ealdor. There I could actually feel a bit of spark between them. And then maybe make Gwen fall in love with Lancelot, Lancelot leaving, Gwen and Arthur getting closer, Lancelot returning. All over the course of the first 3 seasons, not in like 2 or 3 episodes.

It's the thing where the show lost me from the beginning, all the important character growth just happens between the seasons and we get to catch a glimpse at it before and after really important turning points in their lives. I woudln't be surprised if the magic reveal happens in one episode and the next is 2 months later when Arthur has forgiven Merlin or something already. Ugh.
