I see, Merlin Season 5 finally has a Premiere date: it will start up on October 6th. Also known as next Saturday.

Well, that is last possible date to finish the Season this year if it runs all the way through without breaks like the last few years. I`m kind of wistful should this prove to be the last ever Season. I`m not so keen on the direction of the very central theme and I hope they don`t fuck it up too much in the end (Apparently they will do freaking Camlann in the Finale and they are talking about Arthur`s death being the endgame, though one can only imagine with their usual "twist". I really hope this show gets a Happy End, the legends had one of sorts, though going by the Producers I`m not sure they even understand that. Seriously, their babbling frightens me.) but I still have a great fondness for the first Season especially.

Back when it first aired, I was having a difficult time what with my job contract not having been renewed and feeling pretty down and unfailingly every Saturday the goofy, innocent charme of the show would cheer me up immensely, distracting me from RL woes. Cheers for that, little show.

Yeah, the thing with Arthur's death scared me too. And I've been pretty bummed since they said that Gwen now pretty much took over Merlin's position in Arthur's life, becoming his best friend and advisor. That... What next? Walking on water to make her the new Jesus, or what? I think they're way overdoing it with perfect!Gwen.

I agree. Everything I`m hearing about her is how she is this utterly perfect Queen. While Arthur is still growing into his role as King? Come on.

He has been prepared since birth for that position while she comes from such a wildly different background, it would stand to reason that she would have the bigger problems adjusting, to courtiers looking down on her, to not knowing the proper protocol and all that.

I think the producers are too infatuated with the character, like the Smallville folks were with Lana. And that is the result.

Concerning Arthur`s death, it would be a huge bummer if the show ended just with him dying and...that was it. Camelot`s golden age lasted about twenty years. On the show, they hop-skip it in what three? Not to mention will there really be no reveal? Or two seconds before he dies?

If he dies, I`d hope they at least take the ending half-way from the legends and pull a House. Have Arthur and Merlin travel to live in Avalon in shared immortality until they are both needed to return.

I so hope they aren't going to ruin the entire show by fucking up the ending...that's all I have to say.

Word to that. I hope they have some better instincts than that, though with their track record? *wibbles*
