Hm...

I just read the first spoilers/teasers for Merlin Season 5 that I see real potential in.

I assume everyone already does know by now that - now - adult Mordred will come back to the show and train to be a Knight in Camelot. However spoilers were inconclusive as to what role he`d play and from some posted audition script sides, I figured "traitor in Camelot, part 3". A role previously held by Morgana and Aggravaine.

But the actor, see interview here, as well as the writers pretty much spelled out that for once his allegiance will be at least undecided/unclear for most of the Season. Meaning he could be genuinely conflicted.

Seriously, if I never have to see another "Arthur is totally fooled by the traitor within while Merlin and Gaius keep their idiotic mouths shut and then Arthur totally loses his self confidence in the Finale and Merlin feeds him some preposterous lie while STILL keeping his mouth shut about anything that truly matters" plot it will be TOO SOON.

However, I`d forgive them a lot if for once they`d put in a genuine twist in and make a totally "obviously evil" character like Mordred grey. (I mean, lets admit it, they had a good shot with Morgana in the beginning but after her lightswitch to smirking, muhaha-ing crops-burner who can never get it straight that ARTHUR and NOT GWEN sits on "HER" throne, they fell flat on their faces.) Possibly even good in the end. Prophecies schmophecies. They can mean all kinds of things after all.

Doesn`t it? Otherwise, I`m rather apprehensive about the new Season. Still no reveal. :(

They made her such a one-dimensional villain, it`s not even funny. When she sat on her throne in the Season 4 Finale and said to burn the crops if people didn`t bow to her, I could only remember the unicorn ep of Season 1 when the whole Kingdom was on the verge of collapse because the crops was destroyed and Morgana herself had to starve. Nice memory, lady.

I don't mind smirking Morgana as much as I hate martyr!Gwen. God, the wounded doe was painfully embarrassing. I LOL'd when I saw it.

The doe was a bit much but of course they wanted their "clever" pun with heart/hart from the episode title. At least there wasn`t violins and a backlit window. *g*

What I heard about Gwen next Season is making me queasy, though. She sounds so utterly, utterly perfect as Queen and that sounds equal parts boring and obnoxious. Seemingly perfect characters are the worst IMO.

And from all the women introduced as love interests for Arthur, I felt Mithian worked the best in her one ep.

Wait, ADULT!Mordred?? How many years are there between season 2 (or 3? Can't remember when Mordred showed up) and season 5?

Mordred first showed up in Season 1. And there will be a three-year jump between 4 and 5, which they confirmed they did because they wanted adult Mordred.

So since we already had a year-long jump between Seasons 2 and 3 as well as 3 and 4, it`s now around 8 years since Season 1. If Mordred was around 10 back then, he can be a knight-in-training now. :)
