Vampire Diaries Season 3 Finale?

Making Elena a vamp? Now that's what I call a game-changer. Still, after the last three Seasons, I think this was the only way to go for her character without becoming totally stale.

This goes thousand-fold for the love triangle. Her big "choice" her is Stefan but the reason she gives is mostly that she owes him. IDK, they have never been a couple I really shipped all that much. The scene where crazy Ripper!Stefan blackmailed Klaus by threatening to drive Elena off wickery bridge? More chemistry between them then in their romantic scenes.

Damon/Elena on the other hand? I would like to see them together but they are teetering dangerously close on the line of "oh fuck it, bring them together or not but DO it already". In fact, this Season? They already veered a couple times over the line.

Unfortunately, I think this episode painted Damon the underdog in the triangle and was supposed to introduce another "roadblock" for next Season. *groan*

Most heartbreaking moment? Damon holding a dying Alaric, crying. I know it was probably supposed to be all.about.Elena but I like to pretend at least part of it was for Ric, too.

Is Klaus really gone? Sniff. I liked Joseph Morgan in the part. And as much as I ship Klaus/Caroline, I don't want it like this.

Still, this show has guts. Compared to other CW fare, it still stands head and shoulders above them.

I know that it's not his full name and whatnot but I'm still not over the fact that the show has a character named "Klaus". Oh dear God, it gives me "Manta Manta" flashbacks :D

(Actually, I have no idea why I read reviews for this show in the first place. I guess it's because half of my flist is obsessed so I try to stay up to date. Or something :-)I guess mostly I'm just amused about how obsessed some people--not you--are with that show. )

At first I had a difficult time with the name as well but given the origin and all, I think I got used to it. At least it's somewhat original. I only watch True Blood occasionally and while he is not a bad character, naming a thousand year old Wiking vampire "Erik" is quite on the nose.

I don't know about the books for Vampire Diaries and who even wrote them but the author seems to have a thing for more European/German names. Stefan? Not exactly your typical American hero character name either. Normally they are called freaking "Sam" and I can't tell you how over THAT name I am. :-p

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? What HAPPENED there? :p :p :p

The Stefan bit baffled me, too, but Klaus just is the icing on the cake :-p "Klausi! Die haben den Krieg verloren!" :)

In the books the Salvatores are actually an Italian family in Renaissance Italy, so that might explain the names, although Damon isn't exactly an Italian name.

He's actually called Nikolaus and they just call him Klaus. I'm more like: Why do all the Viking vampires have Hebrew and Greek names (Esther, Rebecca, Elijah, Michael, Nikolaus) and not, I don't know, Norse names?

I know :-) Someone explained that to me a while ago but it doesn't make it less funny to me :-)

Maybe Malte, Torben and Sven just wouldn't be sexy enough? (I know, they're not actually old Norse names but it'd still be pretty cool. "I'm Ole--fear me!")

"I'm Ole--fear me!")

*snort* Yeah, that would work. :-D Or something like Lasse and Michel.

I guess American haven't had Lindenstraße and Klausi, so Klaus works for them and the K makes it nicely Norse and obviously the bad-guy.

After all, since Highlander we all know that the bad guys always have K-names.

"Torben - du weißt, dass du dich mit dem Messer verletzen kannst?" :D

True. I was thinking more along the lines of "Manta Manta" but yes, good old Lindenstrasse. At least Klausi was a bit of a bad boy, wasn't he?

I've only seen the Highlander movie so I wouldn't know but it seems probable :)

I had the show on last night in the bg as I often do, so to be honest, I had no idea what was really going on. Seems interesting, but for some reason, I just can't seem to get invested in this show though I keep trying. I think it is the Mary Sueness of Elena that is too much of mental block for me.

But anyway, that's not why I am posting. I just wanted to ask if you saw the interview with the showrunner where they said that even though Elena eventually becomes a vampire in the books, they were not planning to go there with her on the TV show? Yet it seems that is exactly what they did. Did I imagine that or maybe I just misread the tweet or something.

The really sad thing is? In the beginning I applauded this show for subverting the Mary Sue-trope with Elena. I mean, in watching the Pilot I groaned as it reaked of Lana Lang 2.0 but during Seasons 1 and lots of 2, I felt Elena wasn't just pimped as this uber-wonderful-badass when the reality showed anything but, no, she was actually portrayed like a good person and a badass in action. And she wasn't the center of the whole world either.

For some time now that has changed and it's really unfortunate.

I just wanted to ask if you saw the interview with the showrunner where they said that even though Elena eventually becomes a vampire in the books, they were not planning to go there with her on the TV show?

Nope, sorry. I'm completely out of the loop for this show bts-wise or fandom-wise, I wasn't even aware Elena got to be a vamp in the books.

However, if the producers went back on their words in this case, I don't mind. Like I said, something had to change about Elena's status or she would have completely stagnated. I hope this story will give her new impulses. And at least the writers of this show aren't afraid to give their characters that.
