The Pen(dragon)ultimate episode...

Haven't done these in a while but this episode was kinda epic if only because something happened they can't bloody well reset. A real game changer as it is.

Hooray for Morgana being revealed already. I found the totally-obvious-smirking-traitor-in-our-midst-routine really getting old. Also Merlin, if you could go back now and not rope the dragon into bloody healing her, would you do it? Doofus.

Now, if only, only Merlin's magic could be revealed to Arthur already. It's way past time. WAY past time.

So, is everyone in Camelot kinda dead? Prisoners? Slaves? At least the whole army is gone, isn't it?

The ep had a few really good things and a few infuriating ones. With a title like "The Coming of Arthur", I'd have hoped to see him portrayed a bit more competently for a change. Merlin doesn't need to save the day twenty-thousand times in each episode, you know? And getting ridiculously shot with an arrow in the back AGAIN? Oy.

Also, poor Cenred. I liked him. On the other hand, I'm getting kinda sick of Morgause. Yadda, yadda, I hope she bites it.

Getting the cup was so anticlimatic, you wouldn't believe. "Give it to me." "No way." "Yes way." "Okay. Here." And what the hell was the buisness with that child? Granted, he held the sword pointed forwards, not at the child's throat or anything so I hardly believe he would have seriously harmed a kid but still, wtf? This is Arthur, not Uther.

On the other hand, there was a lot I loved. Some wonderful Arthur/Merlin banter. Uther demanding Arthur go alone and Arthur... taking Merlin with him. Merlin bitching about what to pack. Such a married couple there. And Arthur's little smile when Merlin made it clear he'd stay with him. Aww.

I'll overlook the OMG-what-a-coincidence about meeting up with Gwaine again because it was so cute how Arthur stepped up to protect his "little friend". Also Gwaine, why the fuck did you not say you were the champion? You let your friends walk right into that DRAMATIC REVEAL. :-p

The single most funny thing in the episode hands down? Merlin and Gaius SHOUTING each other's names in a castle full of immortal enemy soldiers. Shut the fuck up and talk quietly, you stupid sods!!!

Sir Leon. Sniff. If they kill him, there is gonna be hell to pay.

Morgana giving Gwen the "turn to the dark side" speech? Seriously? Just two weeks ago, she plotted to have her burned at the stake, now she wants her to live? If evil!Morgana had shown some caring about her old friends still, okay, but nowadays it looks ridiculous.

Felt a bit sorry for Uther with his epically betrayed face. But still, she was smirking like an arch villain for 11 godamn episodes in a row, you never caught it?

Felt really sorry for Arthur's astonished and betrayed face. Though the smirking thing goes for him, too. Still, he didn't know about the sibling thing on top of everything. At this point, however, I want him to run her through with a sword. Morgana has gone way over the line.

Oh, and that was the cup of life Nimueh had back then? Who knew. I miss her a bit.

Next week looks epically epic again. I hope they won't end on a cliffhanger - but fear they will. Maybe they will have the entire fourth Season spending with evol queen Morgana and Arthur with his merry band of round table guerilla knights retaking Camelot to be crowned king at the end? Not too in favour of a plot like this, I could, however bear it, if he fucking learned about Merlin's magic already.

OR, Arthur will retake Camelot now and become king - Uther will probably be killed - and already marry Gwen? In that case, what will the rest of the show look like?

Questions, questions.

Haven't seen it yet. Am still waiting for the download. Do you have a link?

But I'm glad to have read your synopsis so as not to get my hopes up too much.

Sorry, I watched a live stream, don't think a dl is up yet. :/

You mean the Arthur bits? It's not as bad as I may have made it sound. The episode was just a lot of exposition and set-up for the Morgana reveal IMO. And the worst part really was getting the cup (and losing it) with the WTF!Arthur moment of "I did not just see this".

But there were also some quite good Arthur!bits IMO and the trailer for next week looks to have more on that front. I presume this is the episode where he "comes into his own", hence the title.

Heh! I never even thought about watching the live stream. I will have to remember that for next week.

Yeah, the Arthur bits. I know, I know the show is called Merlin but it would still be nice to have Arthur seem at least someone competent and worthy of his destiny.

Why do I always end up liking the sidekicks better? I'm doomed to disappointment every single time. *sigh*

Ironically, I don't think Merlin came off all that competent/special/amazing in this episode either. Everyone was basically outwitted by Morgana and Morgause.

Honestly, if I had never seen any episode of this show before (and didn't know the title) and watched this episode, I could not tell you who the hero was. I'd probably guess ensemble with Arthur, Merlin and Gwaine.

I hope you'll be able to enjoy it, somewhat at least. And I agree, tempered expectations help. I'm definitely looking forward to next week, though.

Man, that sucks. Happened to me all the time, too, till I broke down and upgraded.

Heh, i didn't know about any Merlin comms :) Thanks for the link i may join it just for that.

Now when i saw the ep finally i have to say it wasn't a bad ep. Some thiongs you've mentioned already weren't that good but the atmosphere was right and even if sometimes stupid the main heroes were well, heroic :) I liked Merlin-Arthur banter even more i think. Don't know why.
One question i have though. If the army of Mogause is immortal now what will happen if someone will cut a soldier's head off? The body still will be immortal (but useless) or it'll die without a head? This question stuck in my head, sorry ;)

They had some really cute moments in the episode. I "awww-ed" a few times. :)

Heh, that's a good question. Maybe they will grab their head and put it back on? *g*

So then for Arthur and his men to win is just to hide the heads? It could be a funny comedy *g*

Arthur, Merlin and Gwaine are such a Trio Infernale, I LOVE THEM.

The trailer for next week made me squee. Round Table AND Excalibur? I think I may pee myself.

They were really fun together.

Next week looks pretty awesome, Arthur assembling the Knights and I assume fighting the zombie army with Excalibur - it is the only weapon that can kill them as per that episode in the first Season, is it?

I just hope so much Arthur learns about Merlin's magic. I'm so sick of him being conveniently knocked out and looking the other way so that it stays a secret. Even on Smallville all kinds of people learned about Clark's powers along the way.

So if they really change up the show as much as I think they are doing now, they can do that as well.

I love the way they write Gwaine. Lancelot is basically a real chevallier, noble and humble. Gwaine is just so much more happy-go-lucky and fun. And he really, really likes Merlin, and that makes me happy for Merlin :P

I hadn't even thought of that! But it makes sense.

Well, there was this interview a while back in which Colin hinted that as far as his magic and Arthur is concerned, something will happen this season that would be very hard to reverse in the following season. I wonder if perhaps Merlin calls the Dragon or something like that? Or heals Arthur with the cup?

What I think would be awesome (but which is not going to happen) is Merlin revealing himself to be a sorcerer and Arthur going, "Yeah, I figured." If Arthur had been suspecting it but maybe turned a blind eye--or not prodded Merlin about it--so he wouldn't have to lie to his father, that would be a solution I could live with. But it's not gonna happen, I think :-/

Hehe, he is the scoundrel version of Lancelot. *g*

Interesting. I have my fingers crossed.

Oh, that would be awesome. But I think because it's a kids show, the writers don't give much thought to the fact that they continually make their main characters stupid and unobservant in matters like this. I mean, noone noticed Morgana's smirking all the time? Give me a break.

So unfortunately, I agree with you, it probably won't happen.
