Since I pretty much had to accept that by now there is little hope of my beloved Rolli returning, my Mom and I went to the animal shelter to take a look. It was planned that we take one cat at the most but since the little critter would have to spend the day mostly alone due to us working, it would have seemed cruel to subjugate a really small kitten to that.

So, as of today, we have two new additions to our home: a pair of twelve-week old rambunctious brothers, one gray and checkered, one black. Currently, they are roughhousing and/or exploring the house. I'm sure they'll greatly enjoy our big yard once they'll be allowed outside since ultimately, they will be outdoor cats but are gonna stay inside for a week or two to get settled. Will have to observe them a bit more to choose appropriate names.

I will also say, my respect to the people volunteering at the shelter. So many animals looking at you with big, hopeful eyes, begging for some attention. I'm not a dog person but even their sad eyes got to me. Since we recently had a very, very bad dog incident in our general area, I'm guessing their chances of getting adopted have slimmed considerably. Sigh.

Awww, I'm so happy for you. Seem lately every time I go out running there's an injured or abandoned kitten scampering off into the bushes or already having met tragedy, and I feel so terrible not being able to rescue them all and take them home. Makes me happy to know at least some of them get rescued. *smooshes*

:( That's so sad. But I know how you feel. On my drive to work, there is usually at least one run-over animal, often more. Lately, there are so many dead hedgehogs on the srteets, I don't know why.

Felt good to save at least get to "save" the two kittens. Not that I think people at the shelter don't give their all but they are overpacked with animals and understaffed with helpers. You can tell how much the two enjoy being able to run freely around the house and get our undivided attention.

I'm sorry about Rolli but those new furry balls? I want pics!
Also as a dog person i beg you not to judge all dogs by one. There are dogs who love kitties, you know.

Thanks, I still miss Rolli but the new kittens are helping. It feels nice to have a fluffball purring on your lap once more.

As for pics, I'll see what I can do. :)

Oh, I don't judge them. It was just that quite recently a small child was killed by four dogs in a little town close by. Not that I blame the animals, it was irresponsible of the owners to leave the child alone with four big dogs and they just gave into their hunting instinct but unfortunately, I fear it will make people wary to adopt larger dogs from the shelter right now.

Personally, I am somewhat afraid of dogs which they of course feel, too, so I couldn't have one as it would be unfair to both of us.

Oh, it's so sad to hear. Awful story *hugs* How could adults leave a child alone? *shakes her head*
But i'm glad you don't blame dogs (though i think they were put to rest, it's usual practice :( ).
You know, the only treatment for your fear of dogs is to have one :) Really having a dog makes you understand how they *work* and no, you still will feel fear sometimes but it'll be *smart* fear so to speak because you'll know what to expect from a dog. Usually you can read them pretty well and know when you should back off.

I am sorry too for Rolli - sounded like a very nice cat. It sounds though like these two have already won your heart. How about Blacki and Smocki for names.

They are certainly giving it their all. :) And they are incredibly adorable.

Thanks, they are a handful but really adorable. :) I still somewhat miss my Rolli but I just hope he is in a good place right now.

I'm so sorry about your Rolli! That's just so hard :-( I have two babies myself, and it would break my heart too, if anything happened to them!

No way could I work in a shelter. Just thinking about it, makes my heart hurt and my stomach clench. The idea of seeing those animals and knowing some might not get homes, it just makes me a little heartsick. So I agree, kudos to those who can do it!

Oh, forgot to say: congrats on the two new little guys! :-)

The first week was incredibly rough, especially with hoping and being disappointed every day. :(

Nowadays, the pain has dimmed, and it feels good having the new kittens around. They are carving out their own place in the household, that's for sure.

Und was für Namen kriegen die beiden? Wenn du schon zwei auf einmal hast? *g*

Thanks. Not knowing for sure really sucked the worst but it's been so long now, I have to be realistic.

But very big YAY for shelter kittens!!

Heh. They are a handful. And most obviously enjoying their newfound freedom to move around a big house. The shelter is so overpacked with cats, the two of them had to share a rather smallish cage there out of necessity.
