You know this might be a little hypocritical of me since I find the neverending wanks in SPN fandom draining but whenever I need cheering up, the deep, bottomless pit of bitterness thread for Smallville over on TwoP is my happy place. Maybe it's because I've never been really invested in the show and have stopped following it, too - no Lex, no me - or maybe it's so very, very, very bitter, I can't help find it amusing again.

And that's not to say I think they are wrong. I just read a few tidbits and apparently the PTBs take every poignant, memorable moment of previous Seasons and retroactively destroy it. They even bastardized the plotline that really emotionally moved me on the show. So yeah, mucho with the sympathy. I'm just out of it enough that I can also smile at it. That and the wonderful Omar recaps are my only link to this show right now.

And I was thinking about trying to watch Smallville again! (Because so far, I've managed to watch 3 seasons but it's very hard to watch a show where you can only bear one character aka Lex...)

And as I know nothing about the show, I need to ask you: what's TwoP, PTB and Omar recaps? I'm curious...

PS: do you know that I am actually looking forward for tonight's episodes of SPN in Pro7? Gordon in german, how fun should it be?

And kudos to the show for making me wish the future villain would kill the future hero. I mean I expected them to make Lex sympathetic, given the premise of the show, but after he was treated like a doormat and cash dispenser for years by his so-called "friend", I'm completely on his side.

Did you watch Season 1-3 or some in betweeners? Because the 4th has at least Jensen, if only as window dressing mostly.

Oh, PTB or TPTB it stands for "The powers that be". Angel, the show, coined the term and they meant a couple of basically god-like being driving fate. Nowadays fans use it to describe producers/showrunners.

TwoP stands for Television without Pity (www.televisionwithoutpity.com), an infamous site where lots of TV shows are recapped in snarky ways. OmarG for example is the person recapping Smallville and he is pretty funny. Even if you don't watch the show, you can read his episode recaps.

Then there are recappers that are rather mean and hateful to the shows they're recapping. Supernatural is done by someone called Demian and he is so-so with the funnyness. For example he has taken to calling Dean the "stumpy, bow-legged midget" and that is getting old fast to me.

TwoP is also famous for their message boards because the "without pity" part is well earned. You can find a lot of craziness there, though in their defense I like them better than other boards because outright bashing is not allowed. Or being snippy to others by implying their opinions are stupid. The supernatural.tv board has that a lot, fans being childish because other fans don't watch and think exactly like they do.

Kripke and co have said they read both boards. Not sure how I feel about that.

Hehe, you're right. I'm not sure if I remember Gordon's German voice. Will have to tune in just for that.

Well, I learn new things everyday! I'm actually in a Angel suicide mission, i.e. I'm watching all the episodes just because Chris Kane is pretty. And because Spike is going to show up at some point. Of course, I'm still in the first season so I'll have to wait but Spike is always worth it. I saw the PTBs a few episodes back and they made me laugh because the way they're dressed is quite ridiculous. So now I'm imagining producers' meeting as a place full of people wearing blue and gold make up but in suits...

I've watched the 3 first seasons. I might even have stopped in the middle of the 3rd one, I couldn't take it anymore. And Jensen is pretty for the eyes, but even he can't make me able to bear Lana for more than 3 minutes in a row.

And kudos to the show for making me wish the future villain would kill the future hero. I mean I expected them to make Lex sympathetic, given the premise of the show, but after he was treated like a doormat and cash dispenser for years by his so-called "friend", I'm completely on his side.

I know, right?!!! I mean, every time Lex tried to do something nice, Clark was just suspicious and a pain in the ass and at the same time he was keeping secrets. I don't remember a lot, just that I thought everyone was unfair to Lex, assuming he was going to be a bad guy even if he wasn't just because of his father and his money. It gets old really fast.

Maybe I'll simply do that. That might be better than have to deal with whiny Lana and moronic Clark.

I have to admit I really to visit the boards because I'm sure it would make me angry and that's way too much energy-consuming. And I'm too lazy. I love to have discussions with people who don't agree with me about an episode or a character, but if it's just to say stuff like "no you're wrong and stupid and you don't understand things right!", I'm really not interested. As I told you before, if something is really stupid and pathetic, I completely expect you to talk about it in one of your posts... ;P

Thanks for the answers to my questions!

Oh, you mean these two in togas? They were oracles, not actual PTBs. You'll meet one of those in Season 4. :)

But Angel is a really, really good show. I felt Season 2-3-4 got only better as time went on.

I've watched the 3 first seasons. I might even have stopped in the middle of the 3rd one, I couldn't take it anymore. And Jensen is pretty for the eyes, but even he can't make me able to bear Lana for more than 3 minutes in a row.

I couldn't believe my eyes at first but for about three episodes or so Jason - Jensen's character - makes Lana bearable. A miracle really.

Then really don't watch the later Seasons because they're only gonna get meaner, especially when they start to love and forgive Lionel and blame his evilness on having a rotten son like Lex. I wanted to kill them all right then.

Hehe, my own corner of weirdness.

Yep, I totally thought they were the PTBs. I'm sure I wasn't paying enough attention. But they were so ridiculous, I couldn't pay attention to the dialogue!

I'm sure it's going to start getting more interesting. But the first season is really anecdotic. I'll just need to go through it. I mean, I find Angel (the character) a lot more interesting and funny in his own show than he was in buffy (the dark brooding romantic type? Just plain boring for me) so I'm sure it's going to be better.

A miracle indeed! I can barely believe you! She's one of the most annoying character ever created on US TV. And that's something!

You're kidding me?! Lionel is the worst of them all (well, he was last time I saw the show in... 2003?) and he is a huge part of why Lex acts the way he does. If they try to reverse that, then yes, it's not even worth to try and watch the new seasons. I guess I'll read Omar's recaps then... :P

I was a big fan of the Buffy/Angel love story but it was a good thing they ended it in Season 3, it just had nowhere left to go. And Angel as a character as well. He is starting to come into his own really more in Angel.

Also Season 2 sets up some great Lindsey stuff. *pets him*

I know, she is the saintified Uber-Mary Sue.

Nope, Lionel is "redeemed". I nearly puked when they invited him to the Kent family Thanksgiving dinner and were all warm and fuzzy while "evol" Lex was sitting in his big castle by his own.

And Clark blamed Lionel's abuse of Lex on Lex. Great going, Super-dick-man, because abused kids are asking for it. *kicks him*

He is the main reason I'm watching the show again so... *pets him too* *starts more inappropriate touchings*

It's puking material all right! If they could forgive Lionel for everything he did, then ... It's actually so stupid, I can't even talk about it.

And Clark blamed Lionel's abuse of Lex on Lex. Great going, Super-dick-man, because abused kids are asking for it. *kicks him*

Well of course, Lex was an lonely motherless bald kid. He was just asking for it. *rolls eyes* Clark has never been the brightest. After all, he fell for Lana...

I'm fascinated by how much Smallville fans seem to hate their own show. It's like the bitterness keeps them together.

I do understand their points, the show never lived up to its full potential but at least in the previous Seasons it - and the characters - could be charming. But the bitterness thread seems just like a cathartic experience and I marvel at many ways this show can make people bitter.

Certainly makes me feel better about SPN (though I find the TWoP commentaries on that somewhat frightening at times as well).

Yeah, it goes back and forth, but with SPN at least I get the feeling when people are ranting, they are expressing disappointment because the show could do better. Which at times I can fully identify with. There is still a lot of passion for it to be the best it can be. Whereas SV is basically "this sucks even more than it sucked last week - and that sucked ten times as much as last year..." *g*

I enjoyed the show, but I was never invested in it. I'm trying to still watch it, but it barely even makes sense. It's not recognizable as the same show.

I hae stopped half-way into Season 5, then tried again in Season 6 or 7 but I just couldn't get into it anymore. Mostly, I forwarded to all the Lex scenes and that was it.

And I absolutely can't understand the fascination with Green Arrow. I don't like the character and I don't find the actor hot.

Oh, it's so cool to know someone else doesn't like him. I wish no ill will to the actor, but I just don't like his acting and also don't think he's hot. I also really hate the character. He was such an ass to Lex. *g* He was also a jerk to Lois and pretty self-righteous with Clark.
