Bit of trivia about me: I love vampire stories. I will watch and read pretty much anything in that field. And I mean: ANYTHING. There are bodice rippers and harlequin vampire-style and I freaking read them. (A three-book romance novel trifecta was even surprisingly good and touching. *g*)

And right now I`m catching up on both "Blood Ties" and "Moonlight". Now on one hand I don`t have to rush anything because they`re both cancelled. On the other, they`re both freaking cancelled and I haven`t even gotten to the point yet where I could see if I LIKE either show (just watched two of each). So if I do, what do I have to look forward to? Cancellation, that`s what. Open endings, probably. Grr. *fangs*

Now I see a new show is coming out, "True Blood". And what do you know, it`s a vampire show. Should I even bother? Okay, I know I will but why do networks? Or rather why don`t they? Has the theme gone somewhat out of style or what? Because if one after another fails, it does look curious. Also not so good.

Because what I also like? Being given time to invest in a show.

I don't know...this is why I refuse to watch new shows any more, until they get a first season safely onto DVD and renewal for a second.

The mortality rate of new shows has gotten ridiculous.

It truly has. And have the networks forgotten: X-Files, Buffy, Seinfeld, Friends etc - not one a breakout hit. But they got there given time.

Nowaways millions are spent on developing something new for each TV Season. Surely that can`t be cheaper than giving a show with an existing viewer base some breathing room.

I liked Blood Ties much better than Moonlight. I tried, really tried gettting into ML, over and over again but I just didn't like the blond girl. Vicki Nelson on the other hand...!

I think that True Blood has a much greater chance for success - it's a cable show and Anna Paquin plays the main part. So... Besides, as with Blood Ties, if they cancel the show, you can still go back to the books that inspired the series :)

I`ve always liked the actress from Blood Ties, can`t say about the one from Moonlight yet. The Pilot was okay but not really gripping and a good bit of clichéd.

Hopefully. I`d love to see a vampire show succeed again for a change.

I just downloaded the pre-aired pilot of True Blood. From what I heard, people are quite disappointed. Hm... We will see.

I don't know if this helps with your decision about "True Blood" or not, but Supernatural's former writer, Raelle Tucker, is one of the writers for it.

It certainly is a point in its favour as I loved a lot of her work.

It's an HBO show so there'll at least be a full season.

Oh man, I feel like I seriously lowered my expectations because that`s a happy already.

True Blood is totally worth watching because of Raelle and Rogue. :) Two great tastes that might taste great together! And HBO can do stuff that other networks can't get away with, so this is probably gonna be more the type of vampire show that horror fans could get into.

I`m not truly a horror fan but I certainly look forward to a bit more braveness in the show, it being on HBO. And I do love Anna Paquin so hopefully we will have a success for a change. Somehow I can`t remember a single one scripted show premiering in the last two years that turned into a hit. Oh boy.

Moonlight's gone?!?!? Bwah? Nooooo.... The pretty vampire boys were so cute and slashy together! Also "True Blood". Hmn, I am intrigued.

Sadly, it`s true. Good thing I read about it before I started watching. At least like this I know what to expect. Still, disappointing. :/
