Yeah Moonie posted about that in her journal, too... I would have loved a commentary on Faith.

Dito.

I can see why they picked a "fun" episode but if they were going that way, I would have honestly prefered them trying to talk their way out of "Bugs".
Or "Hell House" would have been great.

And they should have done a serious brothers ep too, like Scarecrow or Shadows.
And something with their Dad.

Not to mention how about a commentary on the FINALE. Argh.

Also kudos for doing commentary on the Pilot but that is actually one where I really love to hear both the producer AND the actors.

Grumble, grumble, this is really, really disappointing overall.

It is...why not pick - oh I dunno - an IMPORTANT episode???

Oh I just read "I Spy", you know, the Faith fic you rec'd me? Broke my heart.

Exactly. I have no problem with them doing a fun one on the side. But not if it`the ONLY one they do.

Oh that was a beautiful one. And that`s why the episode felt rushed to me on places. Sure there is no actual suspense about Dean dying but they could have milked it a bit more. When Sam found him lying motionless in the basement and craddled him in his arms, it was a) way too dark and b) cut short.

How about showing Sam performing CPR? Calling for an ambulance or taking Dean to the hospital himself. Sam visiting him at the hospital. Or them going to Nebraska.
Yeah, I admit I liked seeing Sam fuzzing over Dean and I would have loved to see a bit more of that. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with a good schmoopy angsty cliche. *g*

Yesh! I actually never SAW him cradleling Dean in his arms cause my comp screen makes things even more darker, I only saw that after I got a DVD Player that plays Xvid and I was all like "Ooooh? THAT happens?"

Absolutely. So much potential. I hate wasted potential. I REALLY wanted to see more...because, we know how Dean would react if Sam was the one being mortally ill, I just would have LOVED to see Sam reacting to his brother possibly dying...right after he realised he's his oly family.

Sometimes they`re overworking the dark aspects of the show - literally. It`s like Angel where some scenes might as well have been a blackout in my house.

WORD. They could have milked this a lot more. From the beginning of the episode to the point where Dean was healed it took about 12 minutes. Other shows do episode arcs of the potential death of a character, at least a whole episode.

And wouldn`t it have been cool if Sam could have seen the Reaper coming at his brother. Or more importantly he would have seen how Dean did NOT run (and I`m guessing Sam would have put two and two together here) and about to be die a second time.
Man, Sam looked nine kinds of angry when he found Dean`s picture on the altar and he did seem to feel a bit of grim satisfaction about Sue Anne getting her due.
They could have done more with that, I`m just saying.

I`m only glad they switched Scarecrow and Faith around because Sam getting into this big fight with Dean right after Dean nearly dying? So not gonna fly.

Yes. I kept watching the episode on my comp and thought "Okay SOMETHING clearly happens there but what will always be a mystery to me." I actually love the "darkishness" of the show but yes, they overdid it there.

Or more importantly he would have seen how Dean did NOT run (and I`m guessing Sam would have put two and two together here)

Okay. I always assumed Dean didn't run because he knew he couldn't run from it anyway. I mean he KNEW you can't escape the reaper, right? I never took it for Dean sacrificing himself for Layla...but it's an interesting point.

Yeah he was like "My name is Sam Winchester. You tried to kill my brother. Prepare to die!" *lol*

I`m only glad they switched Scarecrow and Faith

Huh? Did they? I always assumed episodes were written...sort of, in a particular order? Uhm...interesting...

I think it would be just a natural flight repsonse, instinctual self-preservation to try to run. Logically I knew I couldn`t out-swim a shark in the middle of the ocean, but I guess I`d still try.

So yes, I took it for him trying to give Layla another chance since I totally believe his "You deserve it a lot more than me" was absolutely genuine.

That`s Dean`s Nr.1 issue. No matter how good or heroic a person and no matter how sweet and sympathetic the other one, who wouldn`t at least think a little bit they had as much right to live as the next person?
Dean totally doesn`t. It`s everybody else first. And sooner or later that is SO gonna get him killed if he can`t move on from that.

Yeah he was like "My name is Sam Winchester. You tried to kill my brother. Prepare to die!" *lol*

Hee. That`s so on the money.
I love this little moments, the brothers subtly showing their protectiveness of each other because often the show is rather heavy on the anvils: "He is my brother and I would do anything for him." Show, don`t tell.

But the little things, like in "Wendigo" when Roy and Sam are about to throw down and Dean steps between them or in "Hookman" at the party, some dude shoulders Sam and Dean gives him the stink-eye. Or in "Provenance", Dean doesn`t start really snarking at Sarah`s Dad until he refuses to shake Sam`s hand. If you watch Dean`s face closely, he was pissed.

That`s why I`d have loved it if Sam had heard Layla`s mom ripping into Dean so he could have jumped in. Or I would love for some random snob to put Dean down (in his absence preferably) and Sam gives him a piece of his mind. Hey, it could work with one of Sam`s college buddies who would be all looking down at Dean for not having gone to college etc.

I was a bit pissed at Sam for not defending Dean to Meg in Shadow. I wouldn`t let someone talk like that to my friends.

Huh? Did they? I always assumed episodes were written...sort of, in a particular order? Uhm...interesting...

They were supposed to air the other way around at first. And from what I remember Bloody Mary was supposed to be the second episode of the Season.

I'm not sure, really...

But that still doesn't change the fact that everyone comes first for Dean. Poor chap.

Yes, and my favourite one? In...I think Nightmare, they're about to cross the street and then Dean sort of holds Sam back by ...*swaps to German* "indem er seinen Arm ausstreckt" *swaps back* and a couple of seconds later a car passes by. I just LOVE that bit to no end. It's really short and easy to miss but it SO defines their relationship. It's like, to Dean Sam will always be a four year old in need of protection. "Watch out if you cross the street Sammy!"

And of course all other moments you mentioned.

And from what I remember Bloody Mary was supposed to be the second episode of the Season.

Really? Well I'm glad they revealed the vision thingy after a coupe of episodes, not in the second one.

By the way I've read the six chapters of When It's Over now and it KILLS me. Because it's perfect and just so, so Dean...

Aww, isn`t it cute.
Of course I didn`t see it this way when I had to spend ages in training my Mom out of grabbing for my damn hand whenever we crossed a street.

And of course Dean can be down right paternal sometimes. In Bloody Mary when he rushed to Sam with "Sammy? Sammy, are you alright?" Totally how you`d approach your kid, when you`re afraid he has been hurt.
In Asylum the: "Answer me when I`m talking to you" God, this is SO parental. Not to mention the "That`s my boy."

None of the sbilings I know behave quite like that towards each other.

I wonder if Dean potty-trained Sammy? Because if so, it would be absolutely impossible to ever completely get this image out of his head. *g*

Me too. The more gradual progression worked a lot better.

Heartbreaking. At first I was a bit sceptic about Dean coming out of his suicide mode a bit in the last chapter, but it makes sense that the only person who`d possibly get through to him would be a kid.
And of course it doesn`t mean than he won`t bounce back and worth, like everytime he is reminded about how many day-to-day things he`ll never be able to do alone. For a restless spirit like Dean who hates accepting help from others and appearing weak to them, that would be hell.

True. But my brother and I are very close, too. I guess it happens when there's trouble in the family, and you're pretty much on your own, and I mean Dean just grew up taking care of his brother and he can't let it go.

OMG YOU'RE EVIL! *tries to shake that image off*

Especially for the reasons given, that Hannah doesn't really see the difference between a sick uncle and a healthy uncle. Though, if she's 11 shouldn't she?

For a restless spirit like Dean who hates accepting help from others and appearing weak to them, that would be hell.

Especially since it doesn't mean that all of a sudden he'll think he's worth something, right?

Huh? When?

Dean goes after Sam because he is worried about Sam obviously getting the trick phone call from "him". And he calls out for Sam and when he doesn`t get an answer, he says it.

and I mean Dean just grew up taking care of his brother and he can't let it go.

Just like any "parent" who always views their kids a bit as their little boy/girl.
Have you read this one: Baby Steps

It`s totally Awwwwwwwww.

OMG YOU'RE EVIL! *tries to shake that image off*

Hee. *g* Maybe Dean even had the presence of mind to take embarassing pictures of Sammy. :)

I guess she is just an optimistic and happy go-lucky child. Because intelectually she is old enough to understand things.

Especially since it doesn't mean that all of a sudden he'll think he's worth something, right?

Totally. He needs to unlearn or relearn quite a lot of things if he is to have any hope of making it in this new life.

I mean, a lot of "normal" people would feel useless and a burden to their family in that situation. Multiply that by 10.000 and you get Dean.

I just read Baby Steps - how perfectly adorable. I wonder whether John was there at all when Sammy made his first steps, and what Sam's first word was.

Totally. I wonder if and how Sam would get it into his head that Dean isn't just worth something when he's healthy and doing something. If that could work at all.

Well, according to this story...

Storm in the Silence

Here are a couple of cute kiddie fics I liked:

First Day

Surviving the Silence

Father Christmas

Something profound would have to happen for that. I can`t see Dean just getting over it, it`s too deeply ingrained in him.
He would have to feel he is good for SOMETHING to keep going.
